| Time to start over, everybody. So the Mini hasn't gotten much loving after it's last outing at Area 2 over a year ago. I was only messing around trying to keep up with everybody with a silver can. Took the inside line against Andy (if I remember correctly), went too close to the cone and flipped it. It rolled over a few times and I had lost throttle. I figured a cable must have come lose. But it was my speed control that had given up. I then got it a Moped V16r so I could compete in the Summer Series. Then the rebuild got abandoned halfway when I couldn't find a team. No worries, time to start it up again. On with the build: The car, after a quick clean up: It looks like a proper track beater, doesn't it? I didn't know you could crash so hard with a silver can. The screw on the battery release actually stamped the body. You can see the two round marks under the door handle and above the Proline decal: It's not much as it is. And it won't be much when it's done either, but I like the concept of it. So here goes. | |

| Get it built. I seem to recall that there were some spares at t&u if you need some.
Jay was using silver can last week and was surprisingly comppetitive.

| Thanks guys. @Andy, thanks for the heads up. I'll give them a call and see if they've got anything I need. Has anybody tried using any grease from Ace or another hardware store? Hobby tubes are too little so they'll add up quickly if I do frequent maintenance. Never needed much with the drifters as they're all belt driven and they've got FOWs and Spools. More pictures in a bit. | |

| With grease less is more.
Where are you planning on using it anyway ? I use a small spec of the very sticky silver anti-wear grease in my gear diff, everything else is dry.

Duane At ProRc. I'll just get some AW grease then. Time to dig through my stuff hoping I find some. Thanks.

| I meant where are you using grease on the car !
I haven't raced in so long I have no idea whether I am fast enough to be competitive so you might not want to go with my suggestions, but I am pretty sure no-one is using more than a match head of grease on their minis.
Over to you all to tell me I am wrong -
Duane.

| I have the diff very tight, but using shims, not grease ,to make it tighter, but yeah AW grease inside the diff is useful. I use a small amount of white grease on the gearbox gears.
The best way to reduce friction in the drivetrain is to get rid of the grease in the bearings and put a light oil in instead.

| I also use shims in my diff to tighen it up.
As for grease or oil, I don't like either since they attrat dirt. I use a dry lubricant, and buy it from the cycling shop like wolfi's. I use it in my brearings and most other spots I want to lub including M chassis gears. Cyclists use it for the same reason, since it does not attract dirt on the chain and gears.
It is wet when you apply it, but it dries, and leaves a teflon dry lubricant.

| Thanks for the inputs guys. I ended up using AW grease for now. Figured I should at least get the car in a running state before I fine tune the diff tightness. But I like the bicycle grease idea that Gerg shared.
@Duane: Oops. Silly me. I meant for all the gears.

| Some updates: Started off by taking down the rear end first: More stuff taken off: Rear end pretty much all taken down: Silver can taken out. Doesn't look too bad: This one's for Jay. Here's what the insides of your diffs might look like : Nice and clean: Had great lighting at the time, so I took another picture: Now to put it all back together again. | |

| Hi, What did you use to clean the grease off, it works a lot better than anything I have used.
