I have no idea, but it looks to me live live axles are more in the spirit of FOFF than the independent suspension on traxxas and the like ?
Its also much easier to build your own truck from a live axle set up. I have shortened my CR01, but for a FOFF, I guess you would want to lengthen it either way its as simple as shorteneing the links or using longer ball cups.
Today is the first time I have seen any of this so I am probably wrong ;-)

either way
your words makw a good start, its still a realatively new idea so it is going to involve alot of testing, atleast we have a baseline to work from = SCX10 axles upwards > the sky's the limit

i know these arent live axles either, but they would look damn good with some sand paddles!
essentially a short course truck on a narrowed chassis

Duane,
I hade proline sand paws on my slash, and they were mounted to CR-01 wheels, direct plug on without hassles.
The CR-01 tranny is very strong, so puttng some brushless grunt in it should work, the only thing is that it is very top heavy so try and remove some of the weight 'upstairs. Lengthening it should be just a case of longer links, and then make sure your driveshafts are long enough. Widening the stance would also be useful...

now things are moving
@jon .... i still prefer to build one than buy one out of the box ..... plus im really not sure on how the indepent suspension of the traxxas summit is??? i havent come across details of the summit yet ..... just not my cup of tea .....
a wheely king more so seems to be more for the FOFF standard

As far as I can tell all of these cars are basically 'crawlers on crack'
These could make for some epic beach sessions with improvised jumps and doubles etc.
Who is going to be first to announce a project ?

Hi strawb,
I can see how moa might not be the best starting point, unsprung weight and all that. But any shaft drive axles should be fine.
I have a project in mind based on the junfac joker I bought from Andy. I will pick up some aluminum sheet, channel and angle section next time I am in the uk to hash together a low cog, big travel chassis.

the junfac joker chassis would work very well with some axial axles as a FOFF base rig!
plus the axial axlse are very reasonably priced in RCC .... ive seen fully loaded beefed up ax-10 axles for less than $100 ...
i'm sure folks are wondering why i keep saying axial? ...... very simple ..... "after market support" ..... with what i see in RC FOFF .... you WILL break parts ..... you will chip gears .... you will break CVD's!
go with a base wherein you can BEEF it up after you break the stockers .... and axial is something that has that!

Duane,
I am not sure if the CR-01 axles will handle that sort of abuse.....the knuckles especially are known to be a weakpoint.....brushless juice will kill them for sure....! The Axial axles and tranny would probably fit nicely in there...

Hi,
I have run the fj with a 25tooth pinion and a silver can, it gets nicely airborne over curbs and ruts. I think a sport tuned or 13 turn ezrun with a 27 tooth pinion will be quick enough without putting too much stress on the drive train. I will be interested to see if the motor will run cool enough, can't see why not, there must be lots of tamiya monster trucks running sport tuned.
anyway I am in Moscow and it's -1 outside so heat is not my problem just yet.

Guys,
You can get proline sand paws from Speed Hobbies, I got them for my Slash some time back and they were only AED65 or thereabouts, try to buy local if you can, the price they wanted was acceptable and it is always good to support the local stores.
