PostProposed AutomodEx Race Track

2010FEB09 UPDATE

for EP we get the full technical layout, for GP less twist and more flat-outs, for minis a lot of left and right turns, less straight.

Proposed AutomodEx Race Track 20100209automodex

anymore comments guys.. we need to finalize this by today clown

2010FEB07 UPDATE

This is to inform you that Automodex have decided to remove the OFF-ROAD Track categories for the following reasons:

•Only 5 participants registered on line for 2 weeks campaign
•Off Road Track is really hard to set-up

Thus, we will go back to the original track layout.

Proposed AutomodEx Race Track 20100207automodex

made some changes to meet the standards clown

____________________________________________________________________________________
2010JAN25 UPDATE

we were ask to divide the track in two to give way for the off-road track. so now we have 20X30 meters for each, on-road and off-road. ive already done some few sketches for the onroad track but im afraid the track width stays at 3.5m.

Your comments and suggestions are welcomed. Feel free to offer any comments you may have about the layout. Suggestions on which materials to use. As of now i think this wont be a permanent one so its gonna be stored and be used for future events.

Nice work Jay,

Like the way the track has a couple of options for setting up different race layouts, well done! I think it will be a great track to race on!

Only comment would be the pit exit may be slightly tricky under race conditions...

pits stops are rarely used during a race.. purpose of the pitstop here is mostly during practice were you leave your car and walk up the stand then go.

ive seen a lot of professional race tracks with this type of pitstop layout.. even in real life like formula1 in yas island's got a twisty underground pits.. see below images.

we can adjust the pits entry if needed.

Hey Jay,

Sorry i have no issue with the entry into the pit, it was more the exit of the pit.

On the Club and Full GP circuit you exit the pits into a fairly tight corner where the race traffic is not predictable.

The International circuit is much better where you exit onto a straight section of track.

Anyway like you say the pit is not really used in races, so I would not worry too much anout it I'm just putting my 2 cents in.

Jay,

You might be able to sort the problem by adjusting the curve of the corner just before and after the pit exit, so that the race line is away from the exit of the pit.

As for the off road track I do remeber Majdi saying they we're trying to secure a piece of dirt for the offroaders.....not sure if there is any updates there....

Andy where are you? I was expecting you to be the first to add your imput into this...

Jay, track looks good to me. I think we'd all be chuffed to have a track like this. What is the spacing of the grid layout / track width?

Paul, I don't see too much problem with the pit exit. If the race direction was the other way I would agree, but the exit is coming into the outside of an apex and looks to me to be only in the racing line for the next corner and should allow enough space to enter the racing line.

thanks greg, grid spacing is 4x4 meters, road width is around 3.5 meters depends on which material they will use. total area just for the track layout is 60x20 meters. you think 3.5 width is enough?

as for to the pits lets just let it pass thru at the back, so we get a straight one like all the rest. or someone could sketch up their ideas.

I would say the track is very cool as it is. Looking at the direction of travel, it seems that in all variants of the track, it opens on to a fairly straight part of the track, although in the club circuit it opens on to a turn, but it is on the outside of a turn so I dont see a prob. I dont think the pits is a critical thing anyway, unless you are doing scheuled pit-stops and this is unlikely unless you are running an event that requires battery changes/refuelling. Having said that, I reckon such a track would make for an interesting Mini Endurance event :-) 2 hours of GRUELLING mini-mayhem on the largest circuit, with allowance for battery, tire and motor changes....seriously, I reckon your nerves would be completely shot after that. 2 drivers per car with a max of 20 min shifts per driver, or a driver change with battery change....

I hope this track comes to fruition, I reckon after being built it could become a club track and get some membership going for maintenance and funding....

I like it, I hope it is not a pipe dream..

Yep, I'd say 3.5m is right on.
I did some reading, but could not find any clear regulations for 1/10 on-road. For 1/10 off-road minimum was 3m, with exception for 2.5m on some track sections. But I think with our driving skills blush and the slippery surface we need wider so 3.5 I think is ideal.

Good work.....let's see if we can make it happen.

Came across this idea for track barriers on a forum.

Water Noodles!
http://www.nationaldiscountpoolsupplies.com/poollounchai.html
They even have connectors.

Seems like a good idea to me, they are soft and flexible so we can make sweeping corners etc. Just need to think how to secure them. Let damage to c
What
do you guys think.

Nice idea Greg! good thinking!

If they dont mind us drilling into the surface of the track they could just be bolted through the centre of the noodle into the ground, with some heavy duty rwal bolts and some washers....

Gud pm sir altimeters. Your design is great! Just have one question, is it possible to adjust the width of the track to minimum 4.5 mtrs. as per international standard? Also, pit stop should always be close to drivers' podium. Kindly check the link below regarding ifmar ruling for 1/10th track design standard for nitro and electric touring.

If I recall, the area that has been provided for the event is limited, right Jay? Besides, just to get an event done for a one-off is not going to have to conform to any standards... smile

I got your point bro. But considering that there will be nitro boys running their 45,000 rpm tuned engines with 2 speed on the track, a width of less than 3.5 meters will be difficult for them especially when maneuvering in corners without applying brakes.

Anyway, i still have to meet with Ronald (from the organizer) by next week so I can discuss this further with him aside from the 1/8th nitro offroads. As for the track design, I have really no question about it and I really admire and love the design created by sir jay. It's just that at least, we really have to consider making some adjustment particularly with the track width.
