Preferred Drift Chassis KIts

Based on all the reviews and feedback given to the different available Drift Chassis Kits in the market such as the Tamiya VDF (biased cos I have one), OTA street Jam & R2, Enroute JXR, Yokomo MR4TC, Eagle Racing Conversions, TB-03D, White wolf … just a few kits I see running around here in dubai

What would you say would be on the top of your wish list? Regardless of whether you already have this kit or your still wishing for one …… what would you recommend to on-line newbies for their next upgrade?

Things that you would consider why you would recommend this kit in terms of performance? Part availability? Setting options? Etc etc etc

Everyone’s opinion will be respected as we don’t want a discussion whether this is better than this and that …. A simple PROS and CONS type of discussion would be nice for everyone to read

considering the given factors such as availability, performance and setting options, i'd go for enroute jxr. i have no complain about the "out of the box" performance of this kit. well-balanced and easy to handle. however, the only thing i don't like about this kit is the fact that it is factory assembled already. next on the list will probably be any belt-driven CF chassis as an upgrade. i love the reaction of SD driven chassis than the belt-driven chassis but i also love how smooth and quiet the BD chassis drives.

For me ill go for Tamiya...VDF ofcourse, althought you will buy the kit without some important parts but in the end you'll be satisfied!

I have OTA on the way, i want to feel the maximum performance of this kit! haven't finish other settings yet but tried it and runs smooth.. thumbs up

I am enjoying my JXR from the time i bought till now.... although i need more practice to get the perfect slide. I guess i just got lucky that my first Real Drift kit was JXR as i was able to practice right away and think about the upgrades on the later part....since it was already 60% CS out of the box.

If i would get a second KIT most probably i would get the VDF but i would like to also try any Yokomo kits just a bit curios why most of our counterparts in Asia particularly in Singapore are very much into this brand.

Well this hobby would be a never ending journey for as long as we love what we are doing....

no doubt about the performance of JXR sir eric...i wish i could have one too...

Well I've been running on shafts ever since I started rc drifting and all of them has served me well. From Tamiyas TT01 and TB EVO V to Yokomos MR4TC SD, all has fought along side by side with those expensive belt driven kits around.

PROS!
Motor to pinion gear -> pinion to spur gear -> spurgear mounted to center one way driveshaft -> center driveshaft meshes to the front and rear differentials via gear that is attached to the universals. That is how the shafties work, everything is so direct outcome is zero delay. Its a solid transfer between each gear unlike for BD kits the stretching of belts occur on every throttle, you cant see it but it does happen and thats why you have belt tension problems in time.

CONS!
Heres the bad part about shafties – torque steer! When using a high-powered motor, this will twist the chassis because the motors torque is overpowering the suspension. This means that at a certain point in time, more torque/weight will favor one side of the chassis over the other. This is a huge challenge for tourers but since we do it sideways its all managable!

One major thing though is that when counter steering came to town the mods for BD kits were much more easier compared to the shafties. Good thing yokomo will always be around for us shafties

My first on my wishlist is MST Front Motor

I have Tamiya VDF which is one of the best kit i can say and OTA-R31 which is very popular kit as well, but between the 2 i will choose VDF.

For Beginner?
- if you have budget get VDF you can hop up later if you have extra cash
- or start with TEH-R31, cheap but the same as the orig, just upgrade some parts like unis and get original pulleys.
- and if you get this kit you can get a lot of local support as most of the drifter here use this kits.

well, aside from my Tamiya TA-03F which is gathering dust, I say I'm happy with my OTA-R2 now. Apart from the regular breakage of knock off parts, it performs well.

Should money is not a problem, I'd say I go for Yokomo DRB. I haven't tried or seen one, but the exclusivity of owning an expensive kit draws my attention.

ive heard from couple of buddies back at home that the XV-01 once its set for drifting it is a good chasis to run sideways

any one has this kit here in DXB?

xv-01 is for rally.. and might need some custom DIYs to do countersteer set up..

i've never hear anyone using xv-01 chassis here

You've got a TT01 E...plenty of headoom in that chassis.

what do you mean headoom? is it a good thing on Drifting or a bad thing is it a good starting chasis?
