Interest in racing touring.

Hey guys, there has been a lot of talk about racing at ProRC, and it is time to get the organisation of some racing underway. There is still a lot of 'fine-tuning' and management to be done, but I would like to think that as one of the most active RC forums here, we are in a good position to support the effort to get some regular racing underway.

There are some regulars that go down to the track, and I know there are others who may not have had the time, have other comittments and interests, but it would be good to start getting ORGANISED.

So, for now, I think we should have a little poll on what classes people intend to run if racing were to be started. I know that the guys at ProRC are keen to have a single class and then seperate people into skill levels. While it seems like a good idea, I feel it would be limiting to those that dont want the speed of 10.5, or would simply like to run a different class.

At the moment, the main interest seems to lie in 13.5T, 10.5T, 1/12 pan car & mini's. And I think for the interest of furthering the sport, we should limit it to that! For now, no F1, 1/8, 1/16, tractors, trucks, ice-cream vans or FF03's (unless you want to run them in one of the above classes)

Seriously...this poll is ONLY to find how much interest there is in each class. FOR NOW, no need to discuss tires, gearing, chassis, servo's, ESC's, brushed or otherwise. I ONLY want to determine who is keen on running in one or more of these classes. Please feel free to vote for more than one class if you think you will be able to compete in more than one.

Please also limit the OT discussions. Once we have some ideas on numbers, then we can open each class up to further detail and discussion.

mini ST motor and FF03 13t for me i still dont have a 4WD tourer?

Just to make it clear, is it a 13T HW or a fully pledged 13.5T motor for the GT Cars?

Lance, for clarity, HW 13T for now. No need to limit anything now, but for the sake of getting people to the track to race, 13T HW becomes a bit of a budget class.
It would be great to have everyone in the 10.5T class, but I believe it is out of some peoples budget.

....so for now, GT class is 13T HW motor limit.

Its more a question of reaction speed than budget for some of us older folks.

Yeah sorry, my BAD. ....I cannot edit the poll. but GT 13T class is representative of the Hobbying 13T motor for now, but not limited to.

The real poll here is to determine how many people are actually going to come down if there is any racing......what classes they would participate in. It looks pretty bleak at th moment if only 12 people want to race, but if those 12 people race in more than one class it looks a little better..

I know that there are quite a few people at prorc that are into 10.5T so I dont think there would be a battle to fill a heat there. It's just us poor, old, sight-impaired crusties that need to make a class or two....hence the mini and GT classes..

Just a thought! What about running mini Traxxas class? There are quite a few out there in the market already and all we would need is a class! They are quite affordable and RTR can be run as a beginners series!

We are having a hard enough time trying to get 3 std classes of touring going, no need to introduce another, especially not in 1/16 as well.....not worth thinking about at this point.

Personally, I have never seen one of these being run in Dubai....not even as a parking lot basher. Excuse my ignorance here, but they seem a little 'toy-ish' (said by someone who thinks his RC cars are not toys )

They are a bit toyish! but actually there are alot of them running around check out Hobby Zone and the other place around the corner? they sell alot of them.

It might be hard to find some people for your other classes as they are quite expensive to start! If you there is a RTR out of the box class it will only attract people to the sport even if they are 'toyish'

Although RC for some people is a bit of fun, for most hobbyists, it gets a little more involved and can become very competitive.
Having spoken to the guys from ProRC, they believe they have catered for the serious RC'er, and I agree with them. Anybody wanting to compete and get serious about the hobby are very well catered for by their track and the shop. They have pretty much everything you would need to race, but I also believe that there is a place for casual RC'ers and for those that don't want to make the initial investment a big one.
It goes without saying that many casual RC'ers start to become more into it, and start wanting better kit, to become more competitive. Anyone who falls into that bracket would have been better off buying quality kit form the outset....but it is a chicken and egg situation.
The X-ray kit that they stock is very good, and once you have added the cost of upgrades, it would have been better to buy a solid, competitive rig at the start. Do the sums, you will see what I mean.

That being said, as a group of enthusiasts, we are in a position to support them, even if we dont all buy their gear. We need to race, and ATTEND in order to further the hobby! I reckon we need to have 5 people in a class and we are good to go for an event, right now it looks I've we have enough to fill out a mini heat, and almost enough for a GT and Open class, good going.

BTW...if anyone is interested in the 1/12 pan cars, ProRC had some kits arrive last week. They are very well priced! I believe they wanted about AED 1050 or thereabouts for the kit. You will need electronics and all, but it is hopped up to the max, so comp ready.
