Hi Guys,
Some of you may remember I introduced myself before I moved over to Muscat from the UK.
Well, I arrived in Dec 2010 and have been slowly chipping away at the RC scene here in Oman.
The biggest thing I have planned, which is in the planning stages, is a 10th scale electric touring car race to IFMAR rules on the Dubai Ice Rink, potentially in December this year.
I have been organising large scale RC car events in Europe for the past 6 years.
I am in frequent contact with the Dubai ice Rink about laying the Primafelt (or similar) carpet, pit area etc etc....what I need to know now is how many racers could potentially come from around the region. This will be an annual event and one of the largest on the worldwide rc calendar.
I intend to attract Marc Rheinard, Andy Moore and other pro team factory racers but of course the distance may be an issue for some and with most large events the core local contingent are critical.
Rules will be 190mm 4wd electric touring cars, brushless, LiPo, rubber slicks on carpet......
Please email me at dan@muchmoreracing.com to let me know if you'll be entering once I announce this.
Thanks,
Dan Rowlands

Dan,
Sounds like a good move, but will needs tons of discussion. I would caution against trying to get the Mall involved, past experience tells me they will be looking for their 'pound of flesh' or they are not interested. If it is a charitable thing, thats different. Bear in mind they will be losing skating revenue whilst this is going on, and will be looking to regain that revenue somehow.
There are about 15 people in Dubai that would probably enter something like this, if it is organised. To give you an idea, we held an event about a year ago called automodex, it was a part of a 1:1 car mod scene and it went of REALLY well. We had 3 classes, 4x4 touring EP, 4x4 touring GP and a Mini class. If I recall, there were about 15 EP and 15 Mini Entrants. It was great fun, but under-funded. NONE of the hobby shops here are interested in sponsoring this type of event. Our Dubdrift founder posted this link on youtube....
I am more than willing to assist and if you want the dirty lowdown, let me know...

Thanks Cathurga,
I actually met with the Automodex guys a couple of weeks ago in Dubai at their offices, the company is an events company called DeoDubai and they wanted to work together to put on a separate RC event after the success of Automodex.
I'll keep you all informed of developments with Dubai Mall but it sounds like they are willing to invest and back the race......watch this space.

Yep,
Thats the one, DEODubai did a lot to work this, and as a group we were very interested in using the Autodrome site that was used for Automodex, but the Autodrom management have made it their objective to ignore every email I send them. I have dealt with two people there, and neither of them have had the courtesy to respond to my mails. They cannot even attract a crowd to the National Racedays, due to lack of sponsorship and them wanting to know how it will benefit them. Not trying to dishearten you but unless there is something in it for them....you will hit resistance.
The organisation of the RC at Automodex was done by a guy at DeoDubai, myself, Jay and Eric (RECKRACING). We have tons of info.
