Need help on my TB03D kit Empty
PostSubject: Need help on my TB03D kit   Need help on my TB03D kit EmptySun Nov 07, 2010 5:10 pm

Here's the thing, when I lock the steering to the left and give full throttle, the car does not turn left and instead go straight then after about more than 1meter that's only the time it will start turning left. But when I lock the steering to the right and give it full throttle, the car will spin to the right which I think should be the normal reaction of the car. I pasted the link to the video of the kit rolling.. I'd be happy to hear some alternative solution from you guys.. Thanks..

eyy toolbos, what electronics you're using? i dont think the servo is at fault. there is a delay once you turn the steering to the left.

check the steering by removing the servo then steer the link by your hand. check if it is loose or tight.

switch on the transmitter and receiver while the servo saver is detached from the servo. then steer to the right and left using the transmitter. if there is still delay in turning to the left, probably your servo needs to be replaced.

ei jeb.. I already disassembled all parts from the front over and over and check if there is something that is keeping my wheels from steering to the left, but i didn't find any problem. Maybe I'll try your second suggestion when I reach home later tonight. Thanks man..

Toolbox,

Ian is right, if there is no binding in the steering mechanism, then the servo is kaput. Plug in another servo and see if it works. If the second servo works, then there is your problem. If the second servo does not work, your radio is dodgy....

Ayt Andy, I'll try that later.. But I have a problem, I don't have any extra servo to do the testing. I'll just try going to HZ maybe they can help me out with a test servo. :-D

Thanks..

I think I know the problem, try this -

Hold the car in your hand and pull full throttle, sometimes if you are not using a regulator, the current draw from the motor will cause a drop in power to the servo and it will tick breifly to one side. This will make your car seem to turn better to one side under acceleration - I have seen this on my cars when using ACE Servos with the TEU101 speed controller a regulator fixed it immediatley. The fact that your car turns normally once it is up to speed makes me think I am right, the motor demands maximum power whens its starting from a stand still, this has the biggest effect on your servo, once the car is moving i.e. after a second, the power demand is less and all the other electronics get to do what they are supposed to.

If this is the problem you will see the car steer slightly to one side if you hold it in your hand and accelerate.

Duane.

hmmnn..

if you're using a front one-way (FOW), one of the bearings have probably gave in.
to check, try spinning your front tires backwards. if one of the wheels rotate freely backwards, you need to replace your FOW or find a way to replace the broken one-way bearing (which in my book is a lot harder).

try taking your car in one of our meets and maybe we can help you out better.

good luck! thumbs_up

I watch your vid......
to me it looks like you have something locking / binding up front.

Does it go in a straight line OK, or does it turn to one side?

Also, with the car in your hand, run it as slow as you can so wheels are only just turning and make sure all 4 are going round.

I had the same problem on my TA. What happened in my car was that the rear diff. had melted.

... It had melted in an odd way, when drifting to the right, it'd lockup and work like a spool, when drifting to the left, only the right wheel would spin, it won't feel right, but it looked fine.

Thanks guys for you replies..
Last night I did what Duane suggested, I held it in my hand and gave full throttle. At first it was ok. But when I started steering all the way to the right, the right wheel stopped while the other 3 continues to roll. I found out that there is something wrong with the knuckle arm or something. There is nothing wrong physically, but I know that is the problem. It's either the dogbone or the knuckle arm. I still don't know. I'll try to check further, but of course I will need all the help I can get from you guys. That's why I will post again a link for a video that I will upload later. For now I have to pretend I'm too busy here in office to impress my boss..hehe..

I think you will need to do some problem solving....... it's all part of the hobby. scratch
You may have a seized bearing, or maybe a king pin or bolt is rubbing somewhere.

Take the dog bones out and make sure your wheels turn OK and freely.
Take your centre shaft out (I don't know TB-03, but I assume you can do this easy) and make sure your diff turns freely.
As you work your way through the drive train you can narrow down where your problem is.

On second thought. After watching your vid, you have too much toe out at the front.

Adjust the steering arms (lengthen) so that the wheels are pointing more straight when steering is neutral.

Also you may need to adjust your end point for your steering.

Dog bones can only turn so far, and yours are probably binding when you go to full lock.

Greg's right, you look like you have a little too much toe-out there......unless it needs to be like that for drifting?? Your ackerman angle is too much, try and connect the steering arms to the outer hole on the steering knuckle. It looks like you have it on the inner one.
If you can turn either front wheel as easily as that, your diff has either worked itself loose, or it's broken.
If you have a manual, take the front diff apart and rebuild it according to the instructions, assuming you have got a front diff and not a spool which I believ the TB03D has. If that is the case, there is a problem with the meshing of the ring and pinion gears. The TB03 diffs are pretty easy to check, you just have to unbole the suspension mount, and four bolts hold the top diff half on.....its a little difficult to see exactly what is wrong there, but certainly your steering geometry needs some work....

I think gerg was right, the toe-out thing was the main problem. When I adjusted the steering arm the right wheel is not stopping anymore when it's in full steer. But I think I still need to figure out how to make some fine tuning on my steering geometry like what andy said. I just don't know how. I'll try to get to the drift meet so you guys can check out my kit.. Thanks for all your help guys. At least now my car is drifting close to normal and I can play with it and practice on my drifting skill..

im no expert in drifting .... but as far as what i've seen with the guys ..... if your not set up for counter steer or overdrive ..... its ok to have all four corners at zero toe and camber angles ..... cool

if i recall correct ... jay's TB Evo has all his angles set at zero ..... same as jebjeb's TA-03F ...

smile

saves you uneven drift tire usage as well toetap5

If you turn the front right wheel, does the left move in the same direction? Does it move in the opposite direction? Can you hold one wheel still and turn the other? If the answer is yes to the above....you have a differential installed.

If you hold one front wheel and cannot turn the other, you have a spool/locked diff.

Knowledge of this could help with some of your other questions...

The fact that your steering is more 'normal' now will have helped the dogbones from binding....straighten everything out. Do you have a manual?

If not....http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/58420ml.pdf....

You may have to paste that in to your browser, Tamiya dont like external links to their site.

Steps 1&2 are important for your diffs.

Steps 17&18 are stock steering and work well for a beginner.

I have a front one way installed. When I turn the right wheel in front counterclockwise all the wheels turns with it, but when I turn it to the other direction it's the only one spinning. Compared to the left front wheel, by spinning the wheels frontwards, the right wheel has a shorter freewheeling than the left. I have have a manual Andy, I will go through the part that you advised and follow what it says as soon as I get home. Thanks guys.. I'll post an update tomorrow.
