Hi besty.. welcome to the forums...

i'll go straight to the point..

there are some guys here selling there drift kits which is Almost Ready To Run (ARTR). you just need to have some batteries and maybe controller and your good to go.

as for the budget, it will cost you some dhs1,500++ if you want to have a decent drifter.

Tb03 for shaft driven or Ta05 for belt driven. You can get this here in Dubai, Toy N Us is the place or try JJ Shop.

Or you can get from your Local Hobby shops there in the USA.. very happy

It would really depend on your budget though.

There's a thing going on in the drifting community for a while now. It's called Overdrive drifting. Where the rear tires spins faster than the front. Makes for more counter-steering action. Very difficult, I must admit. But once you get the hang of it, It's way better than normal drifting.

Belt driven cars are the easiest to modify for an OD set-up. Just need to replace the pulleys.
Possible with the shaft driven cars as well but there are very less available parts for this and modifying them will require some precision.

Good luck dude.. thumbs_up

Besty

have a look under drifting general discussions you will see many threads with recommendations for starter kits and there pros and cons

also under the introduce yourself section there are many others like you who have asked the same questions so just have a browse and see what has been said very happy

also seeing you are from the US you should have a massive selection of hobby shops at your disposal or you can try one of the online stores such www.towerhobbies.com or www.amainhobbies.com.

also www.rcmart.com is based in hong kong but ship worldwide, their prices are very good especially for tamiya products.

i'm not familiar with those, but i know some of the guys here have tried them.....not sure what their thoughts were

if you dont want to make up your kit from scratch (recommended) and are looking for something simple and RTR (ready to run) i would try looking into something like these

I am here to put a spanner in the works smile

What Paul says is right, they are useable, and a great way to get into the hobby. But, if you enjoy the hobby and go a little further, they will become 'tired' very soon.

The HPI I dont know a lot about, but I would be cautious of spares availability. I know speed hobbies on the Hatta road carries them as kits, not sure of the spares though....

The Tamiya XB'x are the same as the kit ones, except they are already built and painted and half the fun and LEARNING about the cars, is in the building. Also, no creativity required to paint.... a lot of people here drive the Tamiya cars, so swapping and acquiring of spares will undoubtedly be easier.

Be aware though that both come with pretty low spec radio gear, with limited functionality and no model memory, which means you will need to re set everything if you want to get more than one car on only one radio....

My advice to you, if you have a budget for either one of those cars, buy a second hand one from the For Sale section here (most guys would have made some decent hop-ups on them already) and use the most of your cash to invest in a decent radio/Tx. If you get tired/bored of the car, just sell it and remove all the radio gear and put it in a new/better car....

Hey Andy,

Besty is in the US, so parts should not be an issue for him, he'll probably have few good LHS near him, plus dirt cheap shipping from amain or tower.

Besty

The rest of andys advice is spot on
